How can I prepare to coach my learner driver effectively?

Start by understanding the UK’s licensing rules. Acquire the latest version of The Highway Code. Ensure the vehicle you are using meets legal and safety requirements, and the learner must be insured to drive the car.
This can be: Added to a parent’s policy as a learner, or take out a seperate short term learner insurance policy.

What are the key safety tips for supervising drivers during practice?

Always stay calm, plan routes beforehand, and ensure distractions are minimised for both you and the learner. Most importantly, lead by example.

How much practice driving does a learner driver need?

The DVSA recommend at least 45 hours with an ADI and around 25 hours of supervised practice, including night driving, to build confidence and skill.

What should I do if my learner driver feels anxious behind the wheel?

Encourage patience, take short sessions, and focus on positive reinforcement to build their confidence gradually.
